I have compiled a list of what I believe are the 5 best movies that center on the sport of ice hockey. So if you are looking for some slam bang and in-your-face entertainment, then I\'m sure you will agree that these movies deserve to grace your movie collection.

Here are my top 5 favorite ice hockey movies from #5 to #1:

5.) Slap Shot (1977)- Paul Newman stars as Reggie Dunlop, player-coach of the Charleston Chiefs of the fictional Federal League. The Chiefs are a losing team and in financial trouble, so they recruit the Hanson Brothers, a trio of thugs with violent tendencies, to help the team start winning. To keep the team motivated to win, Reggie concocts a story that the team is going to be sold to a prospective buyer who plans to move the team to warmer climate, but in reality, the real owner is a rich widow who cares nothing about hockey and would rather fold the franchise and take a tax write-off than allow the team to succeed. It is during one final play-off Chiefs Hockey Jerseys game that Reggie tells his team about his concocted story that there is no buyer and this could be their last game. They decide to go out in style by playing cleanly but they are informed that there are NHL scouts in the stands and they convert back to their goonish ways. After the captain of the opposing team sucker punches the referee, the championship goes to the Chiefs.

4.) Youngblood (1986)- Rob Lowe stars as Dean Youngblood, a 17 year old farmhand who dreams of one day playing in the NHL. Youngblood plays for the Hamilton Mustangs of the Canadian Junior Hockey League and although he possesses blazing speed and a quick stick, he quickly learns that pure athletic ability will not be enough to succeed in this league. After his friend and mentor is injured during a game by the brutish goon Carl Racki, Youngblood returns home to re-evaluate his life. While there he learns the art of fighting and soon returns to the Mustangs Chiefs Hockey Jerseys where he confronts Racki in the Memorial Cup. Youngblood wins the game with a penalty shot and when the game is over calls out Racki in a brawl to end all brawls. Patrick Swayze co-stars as Youngblood\'s friend and mentor, Dean Sutton.

3.) Miracle (2004)- This biographical sports film is about the United States men\'s hockey team, led by head coach Herb Brooks, that won the gold medal in Chiefs Hockey Jerseys the 1980 Winter Olympics. The USA team\'s victory over the heavily favored Soviet team in the medal round was dubbed the Miracle on Ice. Hence the name. Kurt Russell gives a superb performance as Coach Herb Brooks.

2.) Sudden Death (1995)- Jean-Claude Van Damme stars in this movie as firefighter Darren McCord. When he is not able to save a little girl in a house fire, he is removed from active duty and now in charge of fire security at Civic Arena where the Pittsburgh Penguins play. He is attending Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with his son and daughter when he stumbles onto a plot that has left the Vice President and several other VIPs hostage. He also discovers that the whole building is rigged with explosives set to detonate at the end of the game and he must figure out a way to prolong the game and at one point enters the game as the Penguins goalie where he is able to block a shot. Powers Boothe co-stars.

1.) Mystery, Alaska (1999)- This is my favorite ice hockey movie. Russell Crowe stars as John Biebe, sheriff of the town and member of the Mystery, Alaska hockey team. After an article in Sports Illustrated is written about the players of Mystery, a game is set up between them and the New York Rangers. Although they lose the game 5-4, they are celebrated by the town anyway and even earn the respect of the Rangers. Burt Reynolds and Hank Azaria co-star.
